SHAPE
Branding / Naming / WorkshopTHE BRIEF
White Bear Studio launched the SHAPE initiative to help encourage creativity in schools. We have the bit between our teeth and we’re on a mission to diversify the design industry by making practical, problem solving creative skills available to young people.
Support art and design in schools
Help children of all backgrounds
Advise young creatives on career choices
Play. Enough said
Encourage creativity as an outlet for the mind
The Challenge
In a climate of funding cuts and changes to education, it’s a tough time for creative subjects, the tutors who teach them and the students who desperately need them. We are concerned that this cookie-cutter approach to education could isolate children who are less academic, or who have less access to the arts outside of school. The Cultural Learning Alliance found that students from low-income families were three times more likely to get a degree when they participate in arts activities at school.

Result
White Bear Studio created and branded the SHAPE curriculum, supporting materials, and marketing campaign. Hundreds of Greater London schools showed interest and after kicking off, White Bear was able to engage over 150 students in their workshops across 5 schools. Since, we have received support for The Design Council and other design leaders. Now, amid Covid-19 lockdown and a wave of teenagers studying from their bedrooms, SHAPE is relaunching to support creative thinking from home.
